I
Awake! For Morning in the
Bowl of Night
Has flung the Stone that puts
the Stars to Flight:
And lo! the Hunter of
the East has caught
The Sultán’s Turret in a
Noose of Light.
~ Omar Khayyám, 11th c. – early 12th c. CE (from the Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám, trans. Edward Fitzgerald)
i like this poem.
powerful, mysterious
I like it, too. There are a number of wonderful passages in the Rubaiyat, and this one, which opens it, I always found beautiful.
